At Stage 8, output becomes input. The system feeds itself. The energy it generates is the energy that maintains it.
There is no structural reason for a system like this to leave. It has everything it needs, produced by itself, for itself.
Stage 8 is not a stepping stone.
It is terminal velocity.
They did not die from incompetence. They died because they were too good at being what they were.
Kodak
Invented the digital camera in 1975. Buried it. The film loop's immune system attacked the cure.
Blockbuster
Could have bought Netflix for $50M. Revenue depended on late fees. They chose the loop. The loop killed them.
Nokia
Built touchscreens before the iPhone. The bureaucracy was too well built for the thing it already was.
This is not just business.
Golden Handcuffs
The career pays well. The title is respected. You can do the job in your sleep. And you are dying inside.
The “Fine” Relationship
Not fighting. Not building. Just looping. Dinner. Netflix. Sleep. Repeat.
Both are Stage 8 systems.
Successful and trapped.
The faster a gyroscope spins, the more it resists any push to change direction. The more optimized a life becomes, the harder it is to redirect.

It feels like progress. It is not forward motion. It is a tighter and tighter circle.
No amount of optimizing a caterpillar creates a butterfly.

Every stage that starts or holds

This is not metaphor. The arithmetic of the loop literally cannot produce a 3, a 6, or a 9.
That is why it is a trap. And that is why it can be escaped.
To leave Stage 8, the system must do the one thing it is built to prevent.
It must break.
The Loop
The Door
Stage 9 (Dissolution) is the only exit. It feels like death. Structurally, it is the only door.
If the caterpillar dissolves into soup, what remembers to become a butterfly? That is the Witness, and the next key.
The career you can do in your sleep. The relationship that is fine. The business that optimizes what it already is.
The loop that made them successful is the loop holding them in place.
Success is not the opposite of stuck. At Stage 8, success is how stuck is built.
